September 16 – “Heinz Field” – the name – is no more. But the Pittsburghers can still stock up on Heinz on the field where the Pittsburgh Steelers play.
Earlier this year, Heinz was dropped as the naming rights sponsor for the 68,400-seat outdoor venue on Pittsburgh’s North Shore. But the Kraft Heinz Company announced on Friday that it had accepted a multi-year sponsorship to serve as the “official sponsor” of the Steelers.
With that, perhaps especially for those watching the games, the “Heinz red zone” will always be flagged on the scoreboard when the Steelers roll inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. While the large replica physical ketchup bottles are no more, the digital bottles will continue to “pour” ketchup into the dashboard.
One of the two old bottles will remain on site, however: it will serve as what the company calls “an Instagram-worthy photo” for fans to pose next to.
The Steelers open their regular-season home schedule Sunday against the New England Patriots. Fans attending, however, shouldn’t expect to see the 35-foot ketchup bottles this week. According to Kraft Heinz’s release, the company “aims to complete new signage and facilities at the stadium by the end of the 2022 season, pending approval from the Pittsburgh and County Sports & Exhibition Authority.” ‘Allegheny’.
