Free ice cream, offers at local chains and stores
Sunday is the day to save on sugary treats like sundaes.
July 18 is National Ice Cream Day, and businesses across the country are celebrating with specials, discounts, free scoops and contests.
Ice Cream Day became an official gastronomic holiday in 1984 when President Ronald Reagan declared the third Sunday in July to be National Ice Cream Day and the month of July to be National Ice Cream Month.
Reagan’s proclamation noted that the ice cream industry generated $ 3.5 billion in annual sales.
The prepared food festival comes after National Fry Day on Tuesday and National Mac and Cheese Day on Wednesday, but contests to win free McDonald’s fries and free Panera macaroni and cheese are still up for grabs.
According to a survey by the Tillamook County Creamery Association, a dairy cooperative, 82% of Americans’ favorite treats are ice cream.
Toothpaste brand Sensodyne, which hosts an Ice Cream Day contest, found in its survey that the average American plans to eat 39 scoops of ice cream by the end of this summer. More than half (52%) prefer soft ice cream to hard ice cream (30%), according to the survey.
Looking for another free frozen treat? If you haven’t had a free Slurpee from 7-Eleven this month yet, you can still purchase one until July 31.
